Mirena (levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system) is a hormone-releasing system placed in your uterus to prevent pregnancy for as long as you wish for up to 5 years. Mirena also treats heavy periods in women who choose intrauterine contraception.
Mirena is more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy, contains no estrogen, and can be removed by your healthcare provider at any time so you can try to get pregnant.

ParaGard (copper IUD) is an intrauterine device (IUD) that's inserted into the uterus for long-term birth control (contraception). The T-shaped plastic frame is wrapped with copper wire coils. It’s the only reversible birth control that’s more than 99% effective and 100% hormone free. ParaGard prevents pregnancy for up to 10 years after insertion.

Please contact OB GYN Associates for information or questions regarding the intrauterine device forms of contraception.
